The Social Studies/History program at Armstrong brings the past to life, inspiring students to think deeply, ask questions, and make meaningful connections to the world around them. Using the Teachers’ Curriculum Institute’s (TCI) History Alive!—an inquiry-based, hands-on curriculum—students move beyond memorization to actively engage in the stories, perspectives, and ideas that have shaped our world.
Each lesson begins with a compelling hook that sparks curiosity and draws students in, followed by dynamic, collaborative experiences such as simulations, role-playing, and primary source investigations. Students reflect on and synthesize their learning in interactive notebooks, building both understanding and confidence as historians.
The program is thoughtfully designed to grow with students—from exploring community and foundational U.S. history in the Lower School to examining early world history and modern U.S. history in Middle School. A robust digital platform enhances every lesson with multimedia resources, adjustable reading levels, and a variety of assessments, empowering teachers to personalize learning and support every student’s success.
At Armstrong, Social Studies/History is more than learning about the past—it’s about developing curious, informed, and engaged thinkers ready to navigate the future.
