Experience the Armstrong Difference

Welcome to Charles Armstrong School. I’m so glad you’re here to learn more about our extraordinary school and vibrant community.

Students with dyslexia belong here. That simple truth guides everything we do. For more than 58 years, Armstrong has unlocked the unique potential of students with dyslexia and related learning differences - changing the trajectory of their lives and their families’ journeys. Today, we are proud to be the largest school in the San Francisco Bay Area dedicated exclusively to serving students with these learning profiles.

At Armstrong, we believe students with dyslexia do not need to change - the way we teach them does. Our expert faculty are deeply trained in research-based methodologies and skilled in meeting each student exactly where they are. Every element of our program - from our small class sizes to proven curricula, from classroom organization to assistive technologies - is intentionally designed around how your child learns best. This is not one-size-fits-all education. It is purposeful, strength-based instruction designed to unlock individual potential.

And we know that success is about more than reading and writing. Our robust, strength-based specialty programs give students opportunities to explore, develop, and celebrate their strengths. Athletes thrive on our competitive teams. Artists shine in our STEAM showcase and spring musical. Innovators design, tinker, and build in our engineering and design thinking classes. In addition to specialty classes, student-led clubs and enticing electives expand the academic curriculum from gaming to fashion design to mountain biking - if our students dream it, they can do it. When students understand their strengths, they build the confidence to tackle challenges - and to see themselves differently.

Just as important, we are committed to developing good people.  If we teach a child to read but do not help them become a compassionate, confident member of their community, we have missed something essential. At Armstrong, we are committed to both. Our social-emotional learning curriculum, woven throughout the school day, fosters belonging and teaches students how to build meaningful relationships. Our core values - Kindness, Respect, Growth, and Reflection - are not slogans. They shape our expectations, our conversations, and our community.

Finally, Armstrong is a bridge to what comes next. For decades, we have refined the structures and supports that prepare students to transition successfully - whether entering high school after graduating from Armstrong or thoughtfully transitioning back to a mainstream school when they are ready. Our graduates leave not only as stronger learners, but as confident self-advocates who understand how they learn and who they are.

I invite you to explore our community more deeply–and come see our vivacious Silicon Valley campus in action–to discover how the Armstrong difference can open an entirely new world of possibility for your child.

All the best,

Neil
