Music
At Armstrong, our Music Program is a vibrant and inclusive space where all learners—from 2nd through 8th grade—explore sound, rhythm and creative expression. Students build musical literacy through listening, singing, composing and collaborating, and they engage with both group and individual experiences that support their strengths and nurture new skills. Instrumental practice, ensemble work and multimedia creation form the heart of this rich curriculum.
In class we establish a shared “music language” so we can all communicate together about rhythm, melody, harmony and form. We bring this language to life through hands-on instrument work: xylophones, guitars, ukuleles, percussion (including cajónes and drum buckets) provide accessible and engaging paths into making music. We also incorporate the basics of music recording—students learn how to capture, layer and edit sound—so they become creators as well as performers.
Why this matters: at Armstrong we believe in unlocking each child’s unique potential and teaching how they learn best. Our Music Program aligns with that mission by offering multisensory, experiential learning that taps into strengths, builds confidence, and encourages collaboration, respect and responsibility—core values of the school. Through music, students develop not only technical skills but also resilience, creativity and a sense of belonging in a community where every voice matters
